Tugade eyes free 1GB WiFi at all airports within 100 days

Published July 7, 2016 3:36pm
By JOHN TED CORDERO, GMA News

In line with Duterte administration’s commitment to improve the country’s airport services, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade announced that the department is working to provide air passengers free high-speed WiFi service inside airport terminals.

“In due time all our airports will not only be mabango, it will also be communication friendly,” Tugade said during the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the transfer of maintenance of airports’ public restrooms to airline companies.

“We are now working and hopefully it will be in effect in the next 100 days, Wifi free… one gigabyte, sa lahat ng airports. In 100 days it will be operational,” he said.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal noted that the free WiFi service will be at the expense of the provider.

“Walang gagastusin ang gobyerno. It’s a facility that is going to be given for our riding public,” Monreal said.

Monreal said that both Globe Telecom Inc. and Smart of PLDT Inc. are already providing free WiFi services in MIAA’s airports.

“It’s just a matter of upgrading the facilities,” Monreal said.

“Gagawin ho yon and in fact nag-umpisa na po kaming mag-meeting, iroroll out na. Ang target ho namin na commitment nila sa amin for the entire airport sa MIA… I think if i recall it right it’s about August,” Monreal said.

The MIAA general manager hoped that with the efforts of the Duterte administration and Department of Transportation, Ninoy Aquino International Airport will be removed from the list of worst airports in the world.

“Sa ating mga gagawin we’re hoping na mawala ho tayo ron (worst airport list),” he said.

In 2015, travel site Guide to Sleeping in Airports ranked NAIA as the eighth worst in Asia, a sharp improvement from its previous ranking as world’s worst in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

NAIA was the fourth worst airport in 2014.

“Kasi yung ‘worst airport’ perception ‘yan e. Mahirap nating iaddress kasi kung perception lang…everybody has their own perception walang concrete basis dapat merong tayong sorth of templates to really address, see, evaluate, actually,” Monreal said.

“Ang nararapat sa tingin ko ay gawin lang natin ang tama para sa mga manlalakbay, sa ating mga kababayan, mga bisita, yun lang dapat and let them be the judge kasi hindi tayo pwedeng mag-judge doon e,” he added. —JST, GMA News

Arnell Ignacio to hold government post offered by Pres. Duterte

Duterte-Government-Post-Arnell-Ignacio (1)

Ignacio told entertainment news site PEP.ph.

Asked whether the position has something to do with the entertainment industry, Ignacio said it wasn’t, adding that he preferred a position for public service over entertainment.

Ignacio also said that he has started reporting to the office of the agency that he’s going to work for to prepare for his new government post.

He is surprised at all the issues in the way the agency was handled and confessed that his position is quite influential, so much so that his phone is blowing up with people trying to get in touch with him.

Ignacio said.

He vowed to handle his new position responsibly, adding that he’s happy he can now help a lot of people, especially those who come to him for medical help.

During the campaign for the 2016 elections, Ignacio was one of Duterte more vocal supporters, especially on social media. He said that he just wanted to give his all-out support for the then-presidential candidate without expecting any government position in return.

Ignacio was not the first celebrity supporter that Duterte has offered a government post to.

Duterte also offered the position of Undersecretary of Department of Tourism to Kat de Castro, another celebrity supporter and the daughter of former Vice President Noli de Castro. The younger de Castro is usually spotted hosting gatherings for Duterte during the campaign and thanksgiving parties.

Duterte is also rumored to ask another supporter, Aiza Seguerra, to become the commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Based on the comments of the Facebook users reacting to news about Ignacio’s new government post, some defended Duterte’s offer, saying that if Ignacio is qualified for the position, it won’t be a problem. Others were trying to guess what that position could be since Ignacio mentioned giving medical assistance.

But many of the commenters are wondering about one thing – when will it be Mocha Uson’s turn to get a government position?

“Tapos, 30 years later, which is now, nag-meet uli sila thru Facebook, kung ano-anong social media kasi kailangan nila na mag-fundraising for one of the members who’s dying of cancer.

It’s funny.

Sad to say ha, Pilipino rin ako. Ang nangyari ngayon, to each his own, kanya-kanyang lakad.

untitled

People should not blame Raffy Tima for standing up for his wife.

I, as a faithful husband also to my loving wife knows where Raffy is coming from.

Here’s why:

No matter what happens, no matter what she does, you always need to be her first line of defense. I don’t care if it’s a guy in your office who makes an obscene reference to your wife or your parents who make a snarky remark about how ‘clean’ your house is, you should always be ready to leap to her defense.

I’m not saying you should pull out the leather gloves and challenge the offenders to a duel, but be prepared to respond with an appropriate amount of force that makes it clear you will not allow someone to talk about your wife that way.

She is the most important thing in your life, and even if what the person said is absolutely one hundred percent true, it doesn’t matter. She is your wife and you shouldn’t allow ANYONE to say anything bad about her.

Stand up for your wife and protect her from the attacks that come from anyone even if it’s the PRESIDENT.

Let everyone know that when it comes to your wife and marriage, there is a fine red line they cannot cross. If you have to take sides then always take your wife’s side.

From the day you say “I do” your wife displaces your parents, friends, and siblings. Your wife now occupies and assumes the privileged first place of honor in your life.

For someone to say something disparaging about your wife is not only disrespectful to her, it is disrespectful to you, and you need to make it crystal clear that you will not tolerate it even if the guy is the head of state.
